Day 56 - The Best Things in Life

It’s doggie Saturday!
Admittedly, I’m stretching the “pastel” theme here, but go with me, ok? :-)
I don’t know how many Saturdays I’ll keep this up, but this is Doggie Saturday number four so far.
It all started with my scrap box. There was a leftover page from my Blue Dog calendar (art by George Rodrigue) which I stuck on the canvas. The shape in the middle was left behind when I tore out the dog to use on another canvas. I thought about painting a dog or some other animal, but found all these dogs doing funny things and fit them within the space instead. You may not be able to identify their antics very well because I added gesso and ink and paint over them. Each of them reminds me of goofy things that our dogs have done.
We’ve rescued lots of animals over the years. And, we’ve rescued stuff, too, like the world’s oldest Royal typewriter, super old Singer sewing machines, antique furniture that was ready for the dump (according to the owner,) and even a few lonely souls now and then.
I like the text on this canvas because I find it to be true. When the time is right to rescue something or someone, you just know it in your heart. Or, at least I do. I feel it, and that feeling has never failed to be accurate.
Our Golden Retriever, Sandi, came through the same rescue organization where we found Muppet. She was about 4 months old, starved, full of mange and mites and worms and was terrified of the world. Eventually, with a lot of love and work we won her trust and she’s been a great companion for more than 10 years. When my mom lived with us, we taught Sandi to go outside, pick up the newspaper and take it to mom. Sandi’s tail wagged like crazy as she did her job with her head held high. She’d take the paper straight to my mom and toss it in her lap because Mom was never quite quick enough to take it out of her mouth. lol
When my mom moved into an assisted living facility, Sandi loved to go with me several times a week to visit. She greeted each of the residents who liked dogs as she carried the paper down the hallway to the correct room. My mom never complained that the paper was sometimes a bit soggy by the time she got it because the other residents were usually a little jealous. Not that my mom would rub it in or anything! :-)
Stay Artified,
Barb

I smiled at the images of Sandy and your Mom. I'm sure your Mom felt really special! Vicki
